THE 3RD ANNUAL GEORGE REED TOURNAMENT IS ON IT'S WAY. 

The third annual George Reed Golf Tournament for Special Olympics Saskatchewan will be held on Monday, June 25^th at the Wascana Golf and Country Club in Regina. Proceeds from the tournament go to the many programs utilized by the 2,000 Special Olympic athletes with intellectual disabilities throughout the province.

“It is amazing in so many ways how quickly this tournament has been embraced by the public in just three years,” said Reed, the legendary Saskatchewan Roughrider fullback, who has been involved with Special Olympics since his playing days in the 1970s.

The tournament began in 2010 with a sellout of 144 golfers and raised $20,000 for Special Olympics. Last year, 156 golfers played and $70,000 was raised for Special Olympics, making it the single biggest money raiser for Special Olympics Saskatchewan.

Celebrities such as Mayor Pat Fiacco, former Rider Roger Aldag, Canadian women’s curling champion Amber Holland, entertainers Rory Allen and Jack Semple, Regina Symphony Orchestra director Victor Sawa, Seattle Seahawk punter Jon Ryan and a number of others have lent their support to the tournament.

“When you see what these athletes have accomplished, it is truly inspiring,” said Holland.

Entry fee for the tournament is $250 per player. Golfers can register by sending in registration forms or by calling 780-9440. Sponsorship opportunities are also available.

Ted Knight, owner of Crestview Chrysler in Regina, is putting up four brand new vehicles for hole-in-one prizes. As well, he is donating prizes of $500 cash to each of the four closest to the pin winners, excluding hole in-one winners. Golfers will also be treated to a barbecue lunch before the tournament and a grand banquet after the tournament.
